The View From 30,000 Feet

I'm sitting aboard a Virgin America flight headed to Canada and was extremely excited to discover I could EASILY log into the Internet while winging my way across the country. But as I eyeballed the email the guy next to me was reading and sending, I started to think about privacy issues. Of course if I can see and read his, then he can see and read mine! So, instead of opening that critical pricing document I just received from the client, I decided to do more innocuous work instead... which begs the question: how productive can you really be in the air when you can't do REAL work? I love my CrackBerry as my addiction will attest, but it's harder to look at attachments (especially when trying to give creative feedback to an art director while eyeing the layout in miniature!). Logging on at 30,000 feet is certainly fun, but productive? I'm also finding that downloading documents takes a little longer, deleting emails longer still. So what real "work" can I do? I don't want to take out confidential client work and peruse it while my seatmates stretch to read the intimate details of our next marketing assault. So, I'm back to reading, doing the crossword and waiting for the next free round of water refreshment. Ahhh... the luxuries of travel...
